| Tuxedo Urchin | I've have some stuff growing on a few of my rocks. It is brown, traps bubbles, and looks slimy. It has been growing in some of the higher flow areas in the tank. In this pic it is to the left of the orange monti. cap. and behind the pocill. ![]() I know it's a pretty fuzzy pic but do you have any idea of what it is? I've had it before and water changes took care of it as it does most things. Thanks and God bless, Chris

| Hey!Its not my fault ![]() | Re: what's this algae? Sounds like what I fought for months.. slime algae aka. cyano bacteria. Check your nitrates and phosphates and use carbon and phosban 24/7 until it is gone... Weekly water changes of 20 %... Clean clean clean clean everything. Its hard to tell from the pictures but if it begins to form a mat like on livestock it can smother them.. reduce feedings... if you are using like Dts or liquid foods,,, cut WAY back,

| Golden Moray | Re: what's this algae? Sounds like a battle of cyano that I just went through too. Finally I am past it! It's a struggle don't give up. To start off fighting it, I completely blocked my tank of ALL light by putting a blanket over the tank, that way, everything didnt have a chance to spread and keep growing. The after that I was recommended to get Chemi-Pure. I got Chemi-Clean another type of Chemi-Pure. Worked like a charm. But Chemi-Clean is like an emergency, 48 hour fix. Chemi-Pure is long lasting. I have plenty of pictures of mine if you want to compare to see if they are the same.

| Tuxedo Urchin | Re: what's this algae? I had some issues with maintaining proper Ca/Alk levels and blamed it on the use of Phosban (Granular Ferric Oxide...GFO). I don't think that had as big of an impact as low magnesium which I haven't tested for because my mag. test kit hasn't been delivered yet. Long story short...I'm probably going to set my phos. reactor back up later this week, get my mag. where it should be, and everything will be happy happy joy joy. Thanks for the replies! God bless, Chris
