Hermit crabs are killers

Hi I have a marine tank with a few tangs, damsels and clown fish aslo some hermit crabs. The other day i saw one small hermit crab catch my medium size powder tang and kill it.

Is this common?
what shal i do. i put the tang in another tank but it still died.

There must have been something going on with the tang, I have never seen a hermit snag a tang. If the tang was in good health, no way!

Post your water parameters and lets have a look.

Re: Hermit crabs are killers

I am not a fan of hermits at all and they have been removed from my tank but I have a hard time believing they got a healthy tang. The problems I had with them were snail related which makes more sense. The tang must have been sick or dead and the hermits were just cleaning up.

A reef tank is like a race car. The faster you go the harder you crash.
