Exciting new purchase (w/pic)

I went for my weekly lfs visit just now, and saw something I just couldn't pass on.

I think I paid way too much for it, but it's awesome. I don't have it under any lighting now, so it's hard to show the color, but at the lfs it was really bright hot pink.

Also attached to the rock was this little guy.

I think it looks like a "good crab" w/ that black band over it's eyes. I know the pic is blurry, but if anyone can let me know in the next few hours I would appreciate it. It has one big claw and one small claw.

thanks a bunch,
bill

Great color.
I would put the crab in the fuge to be sure. Could be a baby gorilla.

Re: Exciting new purchase (w/pic)

Wow! Now that was a smart purchase. I would have worried about your reefing commitment if you walked by that! Stunning!

I'm a big advocate of crabs, so my opinion will be shot down. I say if your tank is 90 gallons or above, keep it. How much harm can a little crab like that do anyway!

Now that is a awesome ricordia! great find!

As for the crab its claw tips are not black so that is a good sign.

Re: Exciting new purchase (w/pic)

thanks for the link. I had already been there, but it is a great site. my tank is 55 gal., so it would still be a small crab in a big pool. I'm just concerned it will eat/kill my corals. Hopefully I can get a more colorful shot of the ric. later on tonight.

That is an acro crab harmless and host in all types of SPS. I must say that is one beautiful yuma!

Re: Exciting new purchase (w/pic)

Here's a few pics of the yuma in it's new home.

The pics aren't really showing the color, but you get the idea, sort of. I think the crab is going in the display tank later on tonight. I don't have any sps, so do you think he'll be able to survive?

Re: Exciting new purchase (w/pic)

He'll most likely survive. They are hardy little buggers! I had an acro crab that lived in my Birds nest coral, even after the coral died. When I finally removed the dead skeleton, I threw the crab back in the tank. I would see it here and there over the ensuing months and would give it bits of food on the end of a wooden skewer. Just recently I added a Pocillopora and that darn crab found it within 12 hours. He's in hog heaven now all nestled up in that furry coral. I think it is a great addition to my reef and an excellent commensal pal for my Pocillopora.

Yeah Kathy, it looks big enough to frag. A piece for you, a piece for me and a piece for Bill!
