Lobo touching Shrooms

Hello, my Lobophyllia and Mushrooms have both grown to the point they are now in contact with one another. Can the mushrooms hurt the lobo? Both corals look good, and have been touching for about a week now.

Re: Lobo touching Shrooms

Very hard to tell... The first signs of troubles I would move them... If you see any tissue turning white or either coral staying closed...

Re: Lobo touching Shrooms

I would have thought the lobo would hurt the mushroom. I've got some kenya trees that make my mushrooms shrink back away from the kenyas.

Re: Lobo touching Shrooms

I guess I'll let the war play it's self out. As long as the lobo wins, I'm fine with it. What is the mushroom's defense mechanism?

Re: Lobo touching Shrooms

The mushroom could move.

Check out the pics in post #865 of my 55g chronical55g-link-golden-chain-22.html

The lil orange ric had come unattached from where i had him and went missing. A few days later this is where he ended up. At night he was not touching but during the day when the trachy was full they were quite intimate. I let the ric stay there for over a week until it attached to some rubble then I moved it with the other rics I have.

Re: Lobo touching Shrooms

the mushrooms muces is very toxic. and actually gram for gram it may well be the strongest of reef toxins. mushrooms wil usally win the fight agianst hard corals.

and mr funk can i see a pic of your lobo?
I have one now for 2 years and just found out the name of it.
I would lke to know of any tips that u might have as i am haveing trouble with this coral.

Re: Lobo touching Shrooms

I'm kind of in a hurry now, but I'll post a pic of the lobo tonight. Mine is almost done dividing, so I'm thinking in about a week or so, I'll have two.

Re: Lobo touching Shrooms

I've only had mine for about 3 months now. When I got it, it had a scar across the middle, which has since healed over, and is now the line of division. My lighting is pretty inadequate, 260watt pc, but seems to be just fine for the corals I keep. The lobo is approx. 10 inches below these lights. The temp. in my tank is a pretty steady 77.5, with a small fluctuation. I think what really makes a difference is feeding. Especially since my lights suck. I feed my lobo everyday, a couple pcs of frozen mysis thawed in Selcon, and some cyclopeeze. Here's a close pic, I'll try to post a better one after work.

I found this one in my photo bucket, it's when I first got it.

Re: Lobo touching Shrooms

ok, here's a few more pics.

This is what mine looks like when it's hungry.

Here's a more recent pic. You can see where it has almost completely divided towards the bottom.

If you have any more questions, let me know and I'll do my best. It's been a pretty care free coral so far.
