| Elegance coral | Re: Basic plumbing question Where are the holes? At the top of middle of your DT? I have one of my tanks set up with PVC from sump to DT, then PVC dumps back into DT at the top, I drilled a small hole in the return pipe that will create an air escape that stops the return siphon back into the sump due to a power outage. This hole I drilled is close to the top of the water line, so maybe 1 or 2 gallons will return to sump due to Power loss, then it stops. |

| Tuxedo Urchin | Re: Basic plumbing question If you didn't have/want to use the bulk head on the side you could simply cap it off and send the water back to the tank over the top of the aquarium. Depending on your plans, that bulkhead could be a drain to feed a pump for a closed loop maybe. If you run the plumbing over the top you could create a siphon break (a small hole at the water level that would allow air into the pipe when the pump shuts off). God bless, Chris

| Elegance coral | Re: Basic plumbing question Or you can fashion PVC coming out of the bulk head, then angle up to creat the over flow at the surface of the water line. |

| Tunicate | Re: Basic plumbing question what i did Varga for my sump is i put a one way check valve in line form the sump to the DT. that way if the power does go out the check valve will not allow the water to syphon. i also put the return water at the top of the tank as high as i could in case the check valve failed and it did syphon, and i made sure that the sump could hold the water that would syphon back without overflowing before the syphon broke. |

| Tridacna maxima | Re: Basic plumbing question Just set a bulkhead up, make sure there is at least a small piece of PVC for a siphon break, and then get some Loc-Line and make it into another powerhead type of dealio. That is what I was going to do but opted for the spray bar instead. Just make sure the bulkhead is at the top of the tank so you can make a siphon break
