| Neon dottyback | sps problems my sps corals are acting strange i think. i have 4 55watt ho-t5 48" over my 55 long tank. 2 are marine glow(actenic) and 2 are 18000k bulbs. i have my sps corals about 10 inches of depth. the top of the corals or never really out and a little white but the bottoms where there is less light are allways out and vibrant and all thoses nice things. but it is strange though that my lighting is not intense so why are the tops having problems

| Has been struck by the ban stick | Re: sps problems 216w on a 55g tank = 3.9w per gallon. Double that and you will have better luck keeping SPS. I know Somebody will tell me that watts per gallon isn't an accurate way to measure lighting anymore. Outdated method---blah blah blah. Horse Hockey!! It's a GREAT way to establish a BASELINE for reefing. Think about it: I did the math for you. How many of you shook your head when you saw 3.9w per gallon? You KNEW instantly that he didn't have enough light. ![]() Drop a couple 150w MH lights on top of that tank. |

While I agree he could stand a bit more light, wpg is not in any way a great baseline for T5HO's, they are rated about 60 to 70% higher out put than a normal flourescent that the wpg thing was founded on | |
