Harder green/red algae on glass?

Is this normal? I have a type of algae or something growing on the glass that is hard to remove with my scraper. I have to go over it quite a few times to get it to come off. It also has a strange textured look to it. It doesn't look or act like the normal algae I used to have growing.

The texture looks almost like mini snails went over it and ate lines through it. I know vagueish and hard to understand. I'll try to get pics. (tried, impossible)

Anyway, what is this stuff!? Is it my tanks version of coralline? It is NOT pretty like other tanks where it puts spots up. I don't like it and it's
hard to get rid of.

Re: Harder green/red algae on glass?

As much as i like that my tank is sprouting coralline faster than I can get rid of it I DO NOT like this type. It's green almost exclusively. There's red, yes. But it is not much.

You can even get an Easy Blade attachment for a mag float, just be careful around the silicone

Re: Harder green/red algae on glass?

Sounds like a calcium based algae (aka: coralline).
I LOVE my Easy Blade that is attached to my Mag Float. It cuts through it like butter.
Also, my Kent Pro Scraper works fantastic on it.

Mr. Clean Magic Erasers take it right off too. I have glass tanks. I've heard that the erasers will scratch acrylic though.

Re: Harder green/red algae on glass?

All my tanks are glass as well and I use razor blades on them. As far as acrylic gose, I would check in with someone with an acrylic tank to see what they use or wait for an answer here.

Re: Harder green/red algae on glass?

On the aquarium scrapers there are two colors.
One is for glass (I think yellow? usually has a metal edge)
Then the other is for acrylic (red I think?).

They have come to assist you through a difficulty, to provide you with guidance and support, to aid you physically, emotionally or spiritually. They may seem like a godsend and they are. They are there for the reason you need them to be. Then, without any wrongdoing on your part or at an inconvenient time, this person will say or do something to bring the relationship to an end. What we must realize is that our need has been met, our desire fulfilled, their work is done. The prayer you sent up has been answered and now it is time to move on.

Maybe you need a Victoria's card too then. Works in any color.
