| Tunicate | Bermuda Triangle Aquascape? So...my buddy and I where drinking beers, wathcing Battlestar Gallactica on the DVR, and chilling over the 20G tank when we thought, "Hey, wouldnt it be cool to have a really big tank with a crashed "Zero" or a P-51 in it?" My other very expensive hobby is R/C planes/cars/heli's and scale model building using balsa, sheet metals and molded plastics. So we started thinking about how, say, a 75 to 125 G tank would look like with a crashed/twisted/parts all over the bottom of the ocean floor P-51 Mustang or maybe a P-47 Thunderbolt as a center piece in a reef aquarium would look like. With LR's and coral all around it. We think a 1/12th or maybe a 1/10th scale warbird parts would fit well in those large tanks. So my question is: What would be the best material to build things that is safe for a SW aquarium? For that authentic look, sheet metal steel would be the best, since we can make the warbird, then toss it from a 3 story building to get that "crashed look". Plastics (we use lexan mostly) can be molded to look like a crashed bird, but it takes a lot of planning and designing to get it to look authentic. Our R/C planes are scaled (down to the rivets and turrets) but are primarily constructed from balsa wood, which I can already answer that one by saying no to dead organic compounds in a tank (I think). Im hoping sme of you guys can "picture" in your head what that would look like in a tank. I could even create miniature "sea mines" attached to the sea bed, or maybe even recreate the Titanic lying in its resting place hehe... ...ok Im drunk and I talk to much... Anyways, what materials would you suggest? Jon |

| Sunshine Reefer ![]() | Re: Bermuda Triangle Aquascape? Well is you want a Titanic, just let me know. my sister in law thought it would be cool in our tank and gave it to us for Christmas. It now sits on top of the ligts so I could probably talk hubby into letting it go.

| Social Darwinism victim | Re: Bermuda Triangle Aquascape? Well my father tried to get me into modeling... I think the plastic parts may be OK with silicon stuff, don't know about the stickers though. Any way to put the stickers on and cover it with silicone?

| Brunt of all Jokes~ | Re: Bermuda Triangle Aquascape? rule # 4, drinking and reefing do not mix, however "if" your still inclined to this type of behavior you could make the wreck mold it and do the diy rock filler, overtime it would be nice and fuzzy

| Reef Addict (hopeless) ![]() | Re: Bermuda Triangle Aquascape? I'd say I would probably try it with some type of Epoxy Resin. You can "buy" one from Drs Foster and Smith but it's probably the wrong scale!! For what it's worth I think that's a GREAT idea! I too am into R/c have been for going on 30 yrs now.... just getting into heli's though.. a "Crashed Plane Tank" would look SWEET and very authentic if done right!!

| Golden Moray | Re: Bermuda Triangle Aquascape? i think that would be awesome! ive seen beer can's ships... never planes. depending on size of the tank and scale of the model.... anything metal is a no no... so if you want detail its gonna have to be plastic, and paint... then i would have it coated in... eh... eh.... damnit whats that stuff called... its like a plastic dip coating... the plane would have to be skaterd... like it broke up on impact. then it would have to be painted dark... like its algea coverd. (i would guess) thats a nice idea.... I will steal your idea in 15 years.... ok. so (dont hate)
