Mrs Wages Pickeling Lime, at WallyMart by the canning stuff, and or by the Salt/flour area. Same strength 2tsp max per gallon of water.

Re: Best Kalkwasser???

According to Randy Holmes-Farley it is with this caution, not recommended to use large amounts of it to raise MG but to maintain is okay, unless you do regular water changes.

The cost. I was not aware that there is an issue with purity Sas. That thread sure put a frown on my face though

Re: Best Kalkwasser???

Yes it is what i used. I have not been running my kalk reactor for about 6 months now. I was going to build a new one but now am wondering if it is safe still to use pickling lime. I need to do a bit of researching when i find the time. Right now i am focused on other projects...

Re: Best Kalkwasser???

sas retracted his previous statement and i just looked it up online and it does seem as if lots of people are using this instead of paying the insane prices for "reef kalk"

Re: Best Kalkwasser???

Sorry about my last post, I had Mg and epsom salts confused. Mr Wages if fine for a Kalk doseing, I have not heard anything about the bromide from Randy on it.

Re: Best Kalkwasser???

Not to knock this site but Reefcentral.com has 2 renound reef chemist on the chemistry forum that have made up about 12 home brews that are dirt cheap compaired to buying the hobby stuff and they use it in there tanks. Randy's reef water, and reef chemistry articles are there and worth reading.
