| Has been struck by the ban stick | Live Rock Question I have some Kaelini LR that I just recently purchased and a couple of pcs of fiji older LR in a tub and keeping this for the new system I will be setting up in another month or so. The Kaelini LR is mostly cured and the Fiji LR is cured. I have the LR in a tub with three PH's for water circulation and also have a 300ww heater in there as well. Does it need to be exposed to light or can it be kept in the dark? I plan to do a small water change this weekend so is there anything else I should do? Plan to buy two or three nice show pieces of LR to top this off in the new tank. ![]() |

| Reef Lobster | I agree with clint, it's probably better to leave it in the dark... especially since you don't have a cleanup crew to do algae control. I recognize that picture though... I had one of those sitting next to my kitchen for 6 weeks. ![]()

| Reef Shark ![]() | Johnny, I have over 200 lbs of Fiji, Kaelini, and other rock stored in barrels in my garage with heaters, powerheads & airstones. Some of the rock has been there since early October, and I do a 10 to 20% waterchange every month or so, just to keep it fresh, and everything is doing well. I still find a few snails and other misc. inverts, but the coralline definitely has faded, and it's not quite as pretty as before. HOWEVER, once back in a tank with good lighting & the proper calcium & alk. levels, and a bit of fresh rock for seeding, the coralline should come bouncing right back. By the way, a lot of this rock had a nasty hair algae infestation when I first put it in the barrels... Algae no more! Apparently all died off in the dark. Part of the reason I do the water changes, even though there's virtually no bio-load to foul the water. |
