| Court Computer Wiz ![]() | Food for Anglerfish Hi All, I've had my striated angler for a few weeks now and I am working on getting him to take krill as opposed to live food. While we are getting there, does anyone have any recommendations as to live feeders to give him? He was eating ghost shrimp at the LFS and that is working okay, but I like to give a little more variety to my fish friends. Any suggestions? TIA

| Dragon Moderator ![]() | As Gina had mentioned, try to use a peice of meat at the end of a rod and dangle it around in front of him to entice him to eat. You may need to stop feeding him for a while and wait until he gets really hungry before he'll take it though.

| Court Computer Wiz ![]() | Gina, Michelle, thanks for the suggestions. I had some krill here at the office so I decided to try it again this morning. Didn't even have to tempt him, ran it down in the tank on the end of a rod, he waddled right over to where it was and snatched it up! He's a voracious little bugger! Thanks again,

| Dragon Moderator ![]() | WOW, that's incredable. I've heard most predators are very reluctant to start taking dead food. I wonder if he was trained before you recieved him. Any chance you have a photo of him around?

| Plate Coral ![]() | Cool fish! If for some reason you need to feed him live shrimp again, I would suggest feeding the shrimp (aka "gut loading") before giving the shrimp to the angler. Usually just giving them some Formula 1 cube bits would do the trick. Then the angler will get the Formula 1 nutrition as well as the joy of hunting the shrimp!

| Court Computer Wiz ![]() | Mike, thanks for the tip. I had noticed that if I had fed the ghost shrimp before giving them to him, he seemed to be more aggressive in going after them. That was probably due to the food smell they had on them though. I still intend to feed him live food and alternate with krill or silversides, wouldn't want him to get too lazy and forget how to hunt.....
