| Reef Lobster | Re: Clear Hair Algae?!?!? I've seen that too. Mostly after the lights are out. I've been treating it just like regular ha. I scrubbed the rock with a toothbrush and watch feedings, trates, and phosphates. There is other stuff that sticks off the rock in other places that stays really short and is on the bottom side of the rocks. It's not the same.

| Tridacna maxima | Re: Clear Hair Algae?!?!? think you need to get a pic, cell phone camera, anything. most dont want to give advice or chime in on something thats a shot in the dark. esp if it means doing something with the tank. most dont want to say try this and then come to find out after the fact it was not what they were thinking and you did the opposite of what should have been done. (that being nothing in many cases)

| Elegance coral | Re: Clear Hair Algae?!?!? In the aquarium, dinoflagellate blooms are common during the cycling of a new tank, but prolonged existance is usually related to too much organic matter in the water. Dinoflagellates look a lot like snot and frequently have a lot of air bubbles when exposed to high light intensity. |

| Elegance coral | Re: Clear Hair Algae?!?!? Try this: Shut off the filters, pumps, skimmers, etc... Clean the glass and as much other surfaces as you can without messing up your sea scape... Then let it settle as much as possible, do your water change and carefully suck out everything that settled. Now before you turn on all the pumps and filters, make some sort of debrie catch using a nylon sock or filter bag that will go over your sump intake, or aquarium intake. Once those are in place turn on your filters and pumps and let the water clear. You might also want to keep the lights off for a couple days to reduce new growth. Hopefully the water change will remove some of the nitrate thats feeding the clear algae... |
