I need help

Can a cleaner shrimp poison me? I had my arm in the tank glueing some zoanthids to a rock and the cleaner shrimp was cleaning my arm. I felt a stick and then saw blood. It wont stop bleeding and I feel kind of woozy?

I am just being paranoid?

Re: I need help

Zoas are poisonous. Could it have been the zoas? If you aren't feeling well I'd get to a doc.

How are you doing? If you still feel woozy, you had better see a health professional.

Re: I need help

I agree. The cleaner wouldn't hurt you but the fact that it created an open wound while working with Zoos is cause for concern. Tell the doc you may have been exposed to palytoxins.

Re: I need help

i let my cleaner clean my cuticles and scabs, but no where near the same time im messin w/ zoos.

id be real careful, and maybe a lil concerned.

if you keep feeling weird, go to a doc.

you need to be worried about palytoxins being DIRECTLY exposed to your bloodstream

Re: I need help

It stopped bleeding, but the cleaner shrimp left a nice deep scratch that is a bit puffy. I layed down and drank tons of cold water. I have washed the cut with tons of soap and water, peroxide and put neosporin on it.

Hubby is out of town and I am home with 3 kids, so I am paranoid. I think if I had palytoxin poisoning, I would be much sicker or a goner.

I had the woozy feeling like I was going to faint and my heart was racing. I am going to lie down some more and will be back on later.

Re: I need help

Janetta, I think if it were me I would put a call into my doc so that he/she would know what happened, and that you were in contact with something that has palytoxins. I don't think you can be too careful. Especially with three kids there, and you alone. Let the doc know and let his/her office guide you.

Re: I need help

you should be fine.

youd need to like, cut yourself open, then eyedropper in a few drops of palytoxin to die.

or eat a whole colony.

Best of luck.

ill be watchin!

I hope so, too, Janetta. I think you've made the right decision.
