reef background

i've decided to paint my background instead of the god-forsaken plastic ones.
any suggestions for a color for a reef setup? i'm thinking either black or blue but it seems the split is 50/50 on all the tanks i've seen? anyone know if a certain color makes everything look nicer in combination with the lights. any opinions would be appreciated.

Re: reef background

Here's what I did and couldn't be happier. I had the local signmaker attach a blue vinyl to some starboard. Didn't have to paint or worry about trying to apply that wallpaper-type stuff, plus I can change colors. You may be able to see it in my chronicle, but I'm getting my Solaris this friday and reef pics to date are kinda dark. Cost me $30

Re: reef background

My tank has blue plastic overflow and a blue kling background has more of a natural look, black hides cords p.owerheads and nozzles better. Black is cleaner looking IMO. I like them both flip a coin.

Re: reef background

I like blue because it is more reflective. Somebody posted some great underwater shots once, making the point that the "background" in a real reef during the day looks more blue than black. Might have been on a different site. I've had them both. Do what I did and pick for yourself using starboard

Re: reef background

i have majority of the acrylic off & will be getting black paint tomorrow. make sure you do several thin coats, its comes out much better than trying to do one thick coat.

Re: reef background

This is what i am going to do with my next tank. It's a great idea and removable. The Great 240-Gallon In-Wall Reef Project - Equipment
My current tank is painted black. It's ok. Just not as deep as this idea.
