sucker

Well i went to get water today and store had just received a new shipment of corals. I was amazed at a red piece of caulerpa.I asked questions they said it would be fine in my tank. And gave me a real good deal on it due to all the problems i have had. When got home and got it ready to put in tank I noticed a whole lot of green looking grapes on it. Called the store they said it is not a bad algea.Have always heard that green bubbles are not good.still have it in the float sack.Is it safe or not.

Re: sucker

1) people pay for caulerpa?
2) green grapes = valonia. get your gun out.
3) call your LFS and tell them they are all fired

Re: sucker

I don't think you've messed up. I would definately remove the green bubbles though. Whether its Caulerpa racemosa or Valonia, they are both unwanted. I have a red kelp in my tank that is beautiful when the fish let it grow. If you have any herbivors they may like to eat yours also. Mine let it grow for a while then eat it back to nothing and then the cycle starts again.

Yes, people pay for caulerpa.

if you have a seperate fuge from your tank, you can toss all sorts o crap in there to reduce nitrates (well at leas a lil more willy nilly than youd want to in a display)

you could be introducing a galdarn swarm of lil green bubbles to you display, depending on where you stuck it.

Why didnt you buy chaeto? (im assuming availability)

Re: sucker

I agree. Just make sure not to pop the green bubbles when removing them. They are full of spores that will colonize and start growing everywhere.

Re: sucker

Deb: Be aware that anyone who has been in the hobby a while knows what pest algae is, especially one as recognizable as this. This should immediately tell you what sort of folk you are dealing with at your LFS.
