| Tunicate | Help, hair algea growing in refugium! Hello all, I've been fighting hair algea for awhile and I added an AquaC Aquafuge Refugium about 2-3 weeks ago. Everything seems fine but now I've noticed hair algea growing on my macro in the fuge. Also, the hair algea in my main tank is still going strong. I'm not sure what to do. All water is RODI, I feed sparingly every 2-3 days, bulbs are new, water changes every week, add kalk at night, run a phosphate sponge, etc. I'm almost to the point of adding some chemicals to combat the hair algea. any good suggestions? Thanks, Jesse |

| Reef Shark ![]() | My understanding is that the phosphate sponges tend to leach phosphates back into the water once they have reached a saturatrion point. The iron based Phosphate media lile RowaPos or Phosban are supposed to remove phosphates much more effectively, and not leach any back into your tank. HOWEVER, I think I'd b the wrong person to advise you on how best to use the product, as I've apparently done it wrong, and have turned my 90 gallon reef into a brown hazy looking salt swamp for the time being! getting better though! The hair algae seems to be almost melting away on an hour by hour basis, just wilting and looking ver6y poorly. Hopefully, it will take care of that issue anyway. |
