plumbing R/O into system

i want to have my R/O unit go to a resevior tub for an ATO & go to a seperate tub for SW mixing. i'm not absolutely sure how to plumb this set up. i'm thinking of T-ing off the r/o line to both reseviors.

the ATO tub will have some type of auto-shutoff for the r/o right? it will also have a pump that is powered by sensors in the sump. correct?

i would like to have the mix tub on a digital timer (auto water changes 3x a week) so this tub will have a PH in it to keep the water moving, & a heater. i would just have to add the salt.

what i'm trying to decide is if the ATO should be only 10-15g since evaporation will probably be around 7gpd, & the rest of the r/o will got to the mix tub, which will have a shut-off once it reaches a certain amount.

or should the water go to the ATO resevior, & put a seperate pump (that will kick on by a digital timer) which will push water to the mix tub with salt, PH, & heater waiting.

sorry if this sounds confusing, but i'm feeling dense headed. thanks for all the help.

Re: plumbing R/O into system

I gravity feed my ATO devices so I use a float switch in my sump and another in the "ATO tub". I am also thinking of making a saltwater tank. I was simply going to put a T in the line and run another to the saletwater tank, again with a float and inline ball valve before it so I can take partial saltwater out without it adding more fresh water.

Re: plumbing R/O into system

Do you mean shut-off valve? Coralife makes a good one that's all plastic, hence inert and anti-corrosion...

Re: plumbing R/O into system

This is what i plan on using in the sump, since its glass. but i think i may use the coralife of the reseviors, since i will need 2 & their only $20 bucks & i can drill through the Brute can to plumb them.

Re: plumbing R/O into system

I used the Coralife in the sump as well, I just rigged up a acrylic "hanger" that I mounted the float onto... kinda like a hang-on-tank brace...

You can tell my acrylic work is not that great, too many bubbles, but it's in my sump...

Re: plumbing R/O into system

i would tee off to both from the Di...

Di---Tee--- tee left to ATo bin --- tee right to tub for water changes..

both heated, both movement, both airated
both tubs would then have a float valve auto shut off...

then you could just leave the Ro on all the time... asumeing that it has a auto shut off as well.

Re: plumbing R/O into system

thanks for that info. one question, if the sump & both tubs have auto shut off, does the r/o unit itself need to have a auto-shut off too?

Re: plumbing R/O into system

I think most RO units have built in shut-offs... it's that square device with 4 hoses coming going in/out. So if both ATO tub and saltwater tub is both topped off, then the RO will stop making water.
