| Tunicate | Jumping wrasse and tank mod advice This weekend (of course when I go out of town) my 6-line wrasse decided to attempt suicide and jump the back wall in my Oceanic 14 gallon biocube into the bioball filtration area. Well, luckily, the top shelf thingy was still there and it has about 1/2 inch of water in it and that's where he was, albeit quite gray and unhappy. We finally got him back into the main tank where he got some food and looks much happier now. However, I am wondering if anyone has any advice for modifying the back wall to prevent future attempts by jumping fish??? I was thinking maybe some plastic mesh to accommodate the space between the top of the wall and the light hood? Thanks

| Achilles Tang | Re: Jumping wrasse and tank mod advice It's trying to tell you something - the tank is too small for it! A 6 line should be in a 30 gal minimum. You could try putting up some of that plastic gutter guard mesh to keep it in the display portion.

| Midas Blenny | Re: Jumping wrasse and tank mod advice You are not alone, in my case reality imitated the movies, and my percula clownfish leaped over the wall into the same spot in my oceanic 8 gallon!!! Just like NEMO!! He survived the nite only to die 2 days later, problem being the water level needs to be so high to prevent sucking air. Good luck!!!! Let me know if you figure out a mod that will work ![]() |

| Tunicate | Thanks for all the replies! I think I'm going to try the anti-jump proof mod, although I still have to figure out how to attach it at the pump side - there's no intake slats to use zip ties with! Argh. I will let you know how successful I am. I did read online differing info on minimum tank sizes for the wrasse, but if I notice he is not doing well in the 14g, I can move him to my 29g. (Sorry no larger tanks for me right now!) I think so far, he's pretty happy with all his holey rocks to swim in/out of!
