Im unfamiliar with the product what issues are you having. i think generally reefers try to stay away from chemicals to treat algae
What are the side effects of these products?
Is one better than the other?

I wouldn't use either one of those products to "cure" cyano or any other product like that. While some people have had success, others have crashed their tanks using these oxidizers which will severely lower dissolved oxygen levels and require large water changes afterwards. I think a better long term plan is using a GFO phosphate media, frequent water changes, feeding less, etc, and attacking the problem at its source just like you would with microalgae issues.
I've used the Red Slime Remover. The only problem I had was that it drove my skimmer crazy for over a week. The cup would fill within minutes.
Also it is just a band aid. You need to find the source of the problem to make it go away and stay away.

Lynn and Franks saltwater adventure
Lynn's 20g clown tank
Lynn's 90g of sunshine
Lynn's frag tank experiment
A reef tank is like a race car. The faster you go the harder you crash
The only side effects of that sometimes i have noticed is it will make the water look kinda green, and the skimmer overflow...I think it says to disconnect skimmer, as usual with adding "fix it" solutions.
address nutrient issues.
cut back on lighting cycle
suck it out
and get one of them cyano eating fighting conches.
dont add snake oil to the tank. you might solve one problem w/ five others
NO TANK... yet

hey sharky ive tried the chemi clean. i gotta say the stuff works miracles. Did'nt have any problems with my coral or inverts. If you use it just make sure you turn off your protein skimmer and do a nice water change after 2 days.

I've used Boyd's Chemi Clean and it works great. No problems ever. Some people think you should naturally try and beat it, but I've tried that without success before. Sometimes you need a little help and chemi clean works great. I've seen tanks with red slime (cyano) that are two weeks old and tanks that are 3 years old and healthy. Sometimes more harm can come by not using a product to control it. However, I would recommend making sure your water quality is good. No phosphates, nitrates etc. Also watch out for adding to much in the additives department (calcuim, Purple-up) etc. These used to create algae/red slime issues for me.
only problems I have ever seen & it is really not an issue is the skimmer going crazy after the treatment. Chemi - Clean wors great I use it when needed

When I had a red slime outbreak I tried doing all the "preventative" measures (cut back on lights, feeding, more frequent water changes...). It kept growing however. I then tried the blue vet slime control and it took care of it. The only side effect was more skimmate. Make sure you follow the directions
One more thing I forgot, be sure to follow the directions closely. I've heard of people overdosing and thats bad.
I used Chemi-Clean with great results while I figured out what was causing the cyano growth. Nothing wrong with a band-aid to protect your reef while it heals!![]()
I used chemiclean for my cyano problem. It worked flawlessly. My skimmer and I weren't friends for a couple weeks, though.
