| Reefing for Jesus ![]() | Is there a science to it or is it solely based on the tank owners desire? I thought I would pose this question considering I have to encrusting corals in my tank, one being a montipora nodosa the other I am not sure of at the time of this post. I have this fear that the coral might become to large overtaking other corals or valuable rock space that I might use for a future tenant. I already no the rules for GSP's place them on a island alone or they will over tank any object near them and I wonder if I should consider this formula for my encrusting stony's. Just throwing something out there. John

| Reef Lobster | Re: Encrusting Coral Placement i would agree to follow the same method i have my gsp's on a rock that sits alone in my tank so when it grows over the edge of the rock to the substrate i can start just frag off the gsp when it over grows

| Scopas Tang | Re: Encrusting Coral Placement Most Monti's are very weak compared to other corals. In a battle for space the Monti's usually lose the battle and the other stony or soft coral usually wins. I think that you should still give them adequate space out of caution, but I have seen most people just let them grow where they want to. I have two encrusting superman Monti frags that I'm just going to let grow where they want to within reason.

| Reefing for Jesus ![]() | Re: Encrusting Coral Placement I think I will leave the monti but I will another one of my encrusting corals as it backs a bit of a sting and I don't want it taking over.
