| Tubeworm | New clown fish Well I haven't posted anything new since I introduced myself. This weekend I bought a star polyp rock. It is beautiful. My new MH lighting does not do it justice. The bulb is a 11K 175W and it seems a little yellow The shop is going to trade me a 14K for it. I think the blue-er light will look much better. I also bought a really nice Tank raised percula clown. These fish do not usually have the bright orange color like wild caught but this one looked really nice. I woke up this morning to find it sucked up in a powerhead!!! I have never had a fish get in a powerhead. I an devestated. I will have to put a guard on it. I know everyone likes pics but alas I don't have a camera so you will have to wait. I have been researching corals I have a list compiled of hardy corals but I love suggestions.. |

| 8 left feet... | Re: New clown fish Generally when fish get sucked on to the powerhead, it's because they were already dieing/dead to begin with. How long ago did you get the clown? What are your water params? If your water is good, then the LFS may give you credit back for it. I don't think your powerhead killed it, I've seen clowns "surf" the current coming out of the powerhead so they are pretty strong swimmers.

| Tubeworm | Re: New clown fish He was doing great. Water quality is perfect. He was still alive this morning but he was hurt pretty bad. I did the humane thing and took him out of the tank. I didnt want to have to tear up the tank to get him out or it just get sucked back up. He had been "sleeping" near the powerhead. Oh well I will take care of the death trap when I get home from work. Thanks for the input. |

| Reef Shark | Re: New clown fish I agree with what everyone has said. Healthy fish dont get sucked into power heads, even when they are sleeping. Sorry for your loss. WHat type of powerhead is it? ~Michael

| Tubeworm | Re: New clown fish I don't know the type right off hand. My brother gave it to me when he re-vamped his tank. I have never had a fish die from a powerhead before now. I have had snails get in them before. I will put a screen on it. My other powerhead has a grill on it No chance of a problem with it. I still maintain the fish was fine when I went to bed. It was rather small 2.5 to 3 inches. Any sugestions for hard coral? I have 175 MH, RO water and dose with Lime (coraline looks great). I would like to try a frag of Acropora spp. but i don't know which species do the best. I have no nutrient problems no algae problems. The tank has been set up fo 9 months now and my yellow zoes and purple star polyps look great. |

| Reef Shark | Re: New clown fish I would try some of the easier to maintain SPS corals to start with. Maybe some type of Montipora, Stylopora, or poccilopora. Acroporas can be very tempermental, I would reccomend starting with one of these. That way you can learn about the SPS corals, with ones that are more foregiving.

| Tubeworm | Re: New clown fish Thanks. this is the type of info that I, as well as all, reef tank noobs need. I have had saltwater fish tanks for 5 years and I am also a biologist by trade but I haven't a clue in the real world of coral keeping. The books say something is easy to keep but I like to here it from people who have tried it and have the critters in their tanks istead of buy it and hope it lives attitude. |
