| Limpet | Xenia Hi everyone, on Sunday I decided to stop by the LFS and pick up 3 stalks of Xenia. I acclimated Xenia and by the next day it was opening up and doing great. All of the sudden tonight I noticed it wasn't opeing up and was starting to shrink, any idea of what could of caused the sudden decline. All of the other corals are opening as usual and levels are in check. Must be sonmething I am not testing for, but not sure what. |

| Ricordea | Re: Xenia What size of tank? The reason for the question is I had Xenia in 20gal tank that didn't last more then a few days. They opened fine for the first day and never really opened after that, just started shrinking down to nothing. It happened three times and then the fourth time I decided to try them in my 65gal. The ones in the 65gal tank are going strong (strange since the 20gal tank is older). They are sticking to the base rock that I put them on and are now growing. Got them fairly high in the tank under my 250mh and in heavy water movement. I just need to keep and eye on them so they don't go crazy. Anyway, I was thinking that a Xenia in the 20gal wasn't agreeing with a coral in the same tank. Just a guess but I was thinking the Leather coral that I had in the 20gal was the one that the Xenia didn't like. You may want to move them around, since you have three stalks you can try many locations at once and see that helps. Good Luck! |

| Reef Addict (hopeless) ![]() | Re: Xenia Don't sweat "Xenia" pouting. It does this all the time and for seemingly unknown reasons. I have Xenia in a 10g tank and it's growing like MAD! Actually I am selling it weekly now to the LFS. Sometimes it just seems to wilt and withdraw... even for a day or two! Then it perks up like WILD and grows with a vengeance!! Don't move it around just let it pout unless you see it starting to literally dissolve/melt. Then you can remove it from your tank. Honestly I don't give Xenia much attention and it does GREAT!!

| Limpet | Re: Xenia Ragvette - I have a 54 corner. I just tried to move it to the highest point of the tank, so I will see what happens BigAl - Thanks for the info, I had Xenia in my 34 and it did great, grew like crazy. At this point I am just going to leave it alone and see what happens. |

| Reef Addict (hopeless) ![]() | Re: Xenia I have it in 2 out of 3 tanks and if it's going to survive in your tank it will THRIVE! I don't care where I place it, it thrives. It lives at the TOP of the tank even partially exposed to air. It lives at the bottom of the tank partially shaded by rock & a frag tray. It lives on bare sand. It lives on rock. It lives on GLASS. It's a very nice coral that gives the tank some movement and texture. ![]()

| Manta Ray | Re: Xenia Don't get rid of it, even if you think it's completely dead. I had a stalk of Pom Pom that I was 100% sure it was dead. All that was left was a little scrap that looked like chewed up Dentine gum. My wife liked the rock so I left it in the tank. The Xenia came back, one polyp at a time, and now it's is a prolific grower. Don't give up on it, ...ever.

| Reef Lobster | Re: Xenia They will get tempermental with wide temperature changes as well. Once they get settled in they usually do real well. Also, a good habit to get into is to start all of your new inhabitants out, by placing them at the bottom of the tank and work them up over time, just to rule out the possibility of shocking them with too much light. Glad they came around for you, I love xenia. I think they are very cool. |

| Elegance coral | Re: Xenia Xenia is my bread and butter. I let it grow on the front and try not to let it spread to the main rock. When it gets thick, I bring it in to the LFS and trade it in on some nice coral or supplies. It's a love hate thing.
