| Harlequin Tuskfish | Tank w/ aptasia & green algae would you buy so called healthy corals from a tank with aptasia and green algae? A local reefer is selling everything, but the said tank is full of the above.

| Harlequin Tuskfish | Re: Tank w/ aptasia & green algae if you can see the corals for yourself and judge their health. Depends on how long they have been in that enviroment. If you do bring any aptasia from that tank to yours a peppermint shrimp will do the trick or joes juice. The green algae wouldnt transfer over. and if it does and your tank is fine then it will quickly go away.

| Harlequin Tuskfish | Re: Tank w/ aptasia & green algae Thank you. I am so paranoid and protective about the tank that I think I will pass on knowingly adding something that could present a problem. This tank is like another child to me LOL!

| Golden Moray | Re: Tank w/ aptasia & green algae Janetta, Tell us a bit about your tank. What type of skimmer are you using? How long have you had your tank? What kind of lighting? How much live rock? That is if you don't mind. You should be protective of your tank. What type of corals are you planning on getting? |

Its a 29gl Biocube without mods. Everything is still stock. So far, it contains, 40lb of LS, 30lb of LR, a CUP, 2 Chromis, Favia brain, open brain, feather duster, frogspawn, and a palythoa. It was set up right before Thanksgiving. I need to find the time and start a chronicle on it. It was a birthday gift to my son who is 10 years old.

| Golden Moray | Re: Tank w/ aptasia & green algae Sounds like a nice tank. I would stay away from SPS corals (the thrive on MH lighting). You may want to consider a peppermint shrimp or two if you encounter aiptasia. They made short work of a problem I had in the past and now are part of my clean up crew. Your tank is relatively new so I would recommend any additions be made slowly. I have to admit that I'm not that familiar with biocubes but it sounds nice. The other recommendations that I can make are a good skimmer, possibly something like an Aqua C Remora Pro and if you don't have one, a RO/DI filter. I know that you've been asking questions selectively but somehow I felt that you might have been new to the hobby. If I can be of help please let me know. Enjoy your cube. Or I should say your son's cube. |

| Sunshine Reefer ![]() | Re: Tank w/ aptasia & green algae I would definitely try to remove any aiptasia before adding the coral to the tank. Once it gets in, it is difficult to get them all out. You could do this in a qt environment or even in a separate container when you bring them home. Just let the coral sit in the container for a while so the aiptasia opens and then get it with Joe's juice, superglue, or kalc paste.
