Top off

I need to set up a top off system for my kalkwasser and evaporate in my 140 with a 60 gallon fuge. What system would you suggest.

Re: Top off

a 140 will need alot of top off. I use a rubermaid basin ( apx 18" X 30" )
My ro keeps it full with a float. Then my clear 1/2 inch line goes to my sump
with another float. I mix my kalkwasser right in my basin so my top off is r/o
water premixed with kalkwasser. 7 years and works fine.

call or email these guys and they will help. I use a 10 gallon container (wrapping paper holder) that I fill manually. I'm afraid to hook my RO/DI to it and have a float stick while I'm gone and pump endless amounts of freshwater into my system and kill it. In the 10g resevoir is a pump activated by an ATO float switch and solenoid that pushes water through a kalkwasser reactor I built myself from this thread:
4" DIY Kalk Reactor (Probuilder)

You will probably have to go with a larger resevoir (I've got about 110-120g in my system and it evaps 3 gallon/day. HTH!

Greg,
what pump are you using INSIDE of your ATO container? That's exactly what I am planning to do. The only difference is the manufacturer of the ATO kit. I am using the same container as that. I plan to have 3 float switches.. High in sump.. Low in Sump and LOW in ATO tank.

Live Rock Rubble will do the SAME thing as Bio-Balls and is NOT a suitable replacement for BIO-BALLS in a Reef System! It's ALL gotta go!!

Nitrate (NO3) reduction is directly proportional to percentage of Water Change.
Allen's home-made formula...currentNO3-((%WC*.01)currentNO3)=finalNO3 (thanks Luukosian)
This means if you change 50% of your total water volume (That's EVERYTHING) you'll get a net reduction of (NO3) somewhere around 50%.

Ask me about how to increase your REEF budget without going without FOOD!!
