| Smile Maker | Re: cyano There are three ways to deal with cyano growth. 1. Reduce nutrient levels in your tank (nitrate and phosphate). 2. Increase flow to low flow areas and around rockwork. 3. Ensuring that you have light bulbs with the proper spectrum. |

| Plate Coral | Re: cyano I have to say that increasing flow in my tank (when I had a lot of cyano) was the least effective technique in eradicating it. In fact, some areas that had cyano were the ones with the HIGHEST flow. What almost eliminated it for me was ditching all my ornamental empty seashells. That brought it down to almost nothing. Next, I completely stopped using flake food. Now, it's frozen food all the way. Last but not least, although I am still guilty of this now and then (and aren't we all) I cut down the feeding. I stopped feeling guilty every time I walked into the room and all my fish would make a mad dash for the front glass. Now, it's once every three days, EXCEPT my sun coral which gets a VERY targeted feeding every other day. This has eliminated my cyano. John |
