| Tunicate | Hello Gang… I currently have a 55saltwater tank that is a little over a year old. I am currently using 3 filter canisters for my filtration system. I do my water changes frequently. I change about 10g of water every 4 to 5 days to keep my water in top shape. I’ve been throwing the idea of placing live rock inside 1 or 2 of my canisters due to the fact that there are times during the year where I get busy with work and I fall behind on the maintenance on my canisters. (i.e. replacing the carbon and cleaning the pads and the media.) Can anyone tell me if this is a good idea? I’ve asked around and I get a great deal of mixed feedback. I am currently fighting a big outbreak of green hair algae due to the fact that my phosphates shot up due to the fact that I neglected because of my busy schedule… Your information/suggestions/ feedback is greatly appreciated… Thanks.. |

| Golden Moray | Re: Placing Live Rock inside Fluval Cannisters.. Need Help… You say saltwater tank... any live rock and corals? For that, you could just use any of the common ceramic media available for canisters. The live rock would become a detrius trap and not solve your problem. Sounds to me you need a good protein skimmer, and if you don't have any live rock in your tank, that would be a better place to put it. Oh yeah... ![]() |

| Tunicate | Re: Placing Live Rock inside Fluval Cannisters.. Need Help… Hello JFK_Jr and thanks for the info... I have a good amount of live rock inside my fishtank. I dont know how much but I would say its a fair amount. As for coral. I just started to experiment with some frogspawn, pulsin xenia, and some hammertorch wich all seem to be doing well. My only problem is the outbreak of green hair algae that is driving me up the wall.. |

| Golden Moray | Re: Placing Live Rock inside Fluval Cannisters.. Need Help… more flow, better skimmer i remember your post the other day, and the feedback is mixed, but its all true, the bottem line is that, there is no way around tank maintence, adding this or bything that is not gonna replace... RODI water + salt and water changes, your algea, out brake is a ez fix, water changes, and cleanliness how about some more details, to what you have Equipment wise, and what do you feed, and what are you feeding? have you thought of a sump? check out Aqua C remora skimmer's, Would do you justice as far as "plug and play" would go.... if u know what i mean,

| Tunicate | Re: Placing Live Rock inside Fluval Cannisters.. Need Help… I have a Seaclone Protein Skimmer that is about a year old. I’m sure its far from the best thing out on the market but I believe it might be time to upgrate.. I don’t have many fishes in my talk so I feed a small (1 cube of mysis shrimp) about every day about an hour before lights off. I don’t have the room for a sump ![]() |

| Golden Moray | Re: Placing Live Rock inside Fluval Cannisters.. Need Help… Your tank would definitely benefit from a new skimmer! Since you don't run a sump it would be a wise to invest in a new skimmer. |

| Golden Moray | Re: Placing Live Rock inside Fluval Cannisters.. Need Help… 1 cube is not small for a "few fish" unless you have some meat monster's do you thaw it first? soak the cube it RODI first and then strain it and rinse it... that will help right off the bat.... but i would strong sugest checking out that remora.....

| Tunicate | Re: Placing Live Rock inside Fluval Cannisters.. Need Help… I have a long nose butterfly that loves the mysis shrimp. My brownpowder also likes the mysis shrip but not as much as the long nose butterfly. I also have a clown that likes to eat the mysis. Now I am trying to clear up my green hair algae problem. Last night I did a 10g water change (tank is 55g) I aso changed my carbon on 2 of my canisters and I cleaned the pads... Hope this helps... Thanks guys for the information. I really appreciate it... |
