sand sifting truoble?

alright, i have 10 gallon with 17 ponds LR and a couple zoo fags and mushrooms and there doin great. i have added a clown goby and its also doin great eating and very active, i thought for my last fish i could add a sand sifter goby? i reserched two spots and i think they need to be in pairs and because how they are in the ocean. (im a firm beliver in creating my reef like the ocean so if two spots pair up in the ocean they should be paired in the aquarium) and i think 2 two spoted gobys will push my bioload wat other recamindations do u have?

also im very enthuststic of water changes so im not lazy if this helps with my bio load and i have great skimmer for ten gallon (prizm)

thanx

Re: sand sifting truoble?

Add another 10 gallon "piggy-back" tank as a refugium to increase your water volumn to 20 gallons!

Re: sand sifting truoble?

My advice, and it's just my two cents, is you may want to choose another goby besides the twin spot. They are great sand sifters but they need very large aquariums to survive. They also do best as pairs as you said. They eat large amounts of food and will quickly clear the substrate of pods, worms and other creatures and then need to be fed four to five times per day.
A better choice would be an Orangespotted shrimp goby, try to get one captured as part of a fish/shrimp duo.
And yes, gobies will spit sand on everything. A turkey baster gets it off though. Hope this helps.

i agree, avoid the two spot. not only do they need a large tank but a large mature productive sandbed. hard fish to keep long term.

Re: sand sifting truoble?

That is way to much bio-load for that small of a tank. Really you are maxed with the one fish. You might get away with one more but not two.
Yes any of the sand sifters will throw sand all over the tank.
A bettter option for you to keep the sand turned are nassarius snails. They are cool to watch and do a great job keeping the sand turned and clean.

Re: sand sifting truoble?

i would go with only one or two(max) on the nassarius. they may starve in that small of a tank, they are carnivores so need to be feed. cerith snails are also good for sand stirring but are omnivores and will eat on algae if no meaty foods are around.
