| The Wand Geek was here. ;) ![]() | It's probably just shedding. My toadstool does the same thing every 3-4 months. I wouldn't worry about it as long as the polyps are extended and it otherwise looks happy. ![]()

| Has been struck by the ban stick | I agree with Woodstock! It is probably getting ready to shed it's muscus layer to rid itself of any detrius on it. In will come back more beautiful than ever after the event. Just keep a close eye on it as this is not always the case. ![]() |

| Ricordea | Hi, Nugio- The stalks on my large sarcophytons develop a film of algae that never really sheds, and my largest (11 inches across) is going on 3 years now. I wouldn't worry about it unless it begins to look like it is being eaten away. If you really hate the look of it you can cut the entire top off and remount it elsewhere. I did this with my big boy once because the stalk was about 14 inches tall and threatening to grow out of the tank! Then the cut stalk grew a whole new top and I had two huge unmanageable sarcos ![]()

| Reef Lobster | I agree, nothing to worry about. My leather sheds a layer about once every 6 weeks. Brucey

| Bryozoan | Speaking of Leathers...mine has been shedding every 6 weeks or so and has doubled in size in the past 18 months. Polyps are extended but now it's starting to develop a split...does anyone know if these things divide like that...no discoloration of anything...and I just looked...seems the opposite side is developing a similar split... First posting, although I've been reading you for months...Thanks

| Golden Moray | Glad you're posting now Ladipyg!!! We can help you better if we know what kind of leather you have. Do you have a Sarcophyton (Toadstool) that is splitting or finger leather, or one of the other types?

| Smilie Bartender ![]() | Assuming you're talking about a toadstool, yes they do drop babies like that. You'll see a hole develop in the cap, and it will turn into a little bud that eventually drops from the mother colony. It's very interesting to see happen, but a painfully slow process. That thing will dangle there for weeks, LOL. Once it drops, you should try super-gluing or using fishing line to tie the frag onto a rock. This will increase the chances that it will not get blown away to a dark spot where it won't grow up. About the scaly base of the toadstool, mine has it too, has for over a year, and seems perfectly fine. As reefshadow said, no worries! Travis
