I don't know enough about them to have an opinion but if it is working for you then leave well enough alone.
Perhaps I can do an experimental tank if I get another one.

Re: Myth Busters! fact? or fiction?

if you are going to run a UGF, reverse it the only way to do it. they cause diterus to remain in suspension so that other mechanical filters can do their job. back in the day thats how i ran them using hagen quickchange filters on the PHs and i never really had issues with it except in FW live plant tanks.

i say this as my best advice to a beginner. do not,,,and i repeat,,,,,DO NOT look at my tank as an example....i have a well practised eye, decades of experience, and a trunkload of failures to allow me to force the issue and get away with things most cannot~

I am sure I am the only one here with one.
I did not read your post clearly apparently. I missed the reverse part and have no experience with doing it that way. After reading what Wit said about it though i can see how that would work. interesting!

I was wondering what you all thought about ozone generators and how effective they are for the price...

Oh here is one that I think that we should discuss. CHEMI PURE. They claim that you dont have to do water changes. Also they claim that they have tanks up and running that they have not done water changes in over 10 years with using this product.... ANY TAKERS?????

Re: Myth Busters! fact? or fiction?

About ozone generators, I have been running one for over twenty years but the thing just died last week so I will have to wait to see if I notice any difference. I do want to get another one though.
I used Chemi Pure a few times, can't comment on if you have to do water changes but I am sure you would.
I guess no takers on UG filters.

Re: Myth Busters! fact? or fiction?

chemi pure might have a good marketing strategy here...if u dont have to do water changes, im surprised they dont charge a hundred dollars...however i am a religious water changer no way your gonna convince me.

Re: Myth Busters! fact? or fiction?

Reading the info under it at DF&S, it sounds like activated charcoal.
