| Tubeworm | Hi all. I have a 46 bowfront with skimmer, UBV bulb, live rock and power head. Im adding reef safe fish. Question - I have two 65 watt bulbs (one white, one actinic)..... Given this lighting and size tank, can you all recommend some neat corals that, as a beginner, I can add to my tank? Photos would be helpful. I want to add some colorful things that "move" with the current. Im already adding the calcium, strontium, idodide and all that fun stuff. Please let me know!!! Thank you! C ya! | Contributing Member ![]() | Welcome to RS!! Just a couple of questions: How long has the tank been up and running - Are you testing for the supplements you are adding? What else are you testing for - could you supply results? Welcome, again....hope you like it here!!!

| Tubeworm | Hi! Thank u so much for responding. The tank has been up and running over a month. I know I will be doing things slowly, but I want to know what my ultimate reef goal is so that I can make sure i Have the proper lighting. My maintenance peeps test the water.....all parameters are good.. No ammonia or nitrites and a wee bit of nitrates which the water change will take care of. He said the alkalinity is between 10-12 and the calcium is being maintained between 375-450 ppm. please do NOT ask me what all this means because I have no clue. The strontium chloride and potassium idodide I have no clue, but they said my levels were fine. So are there any interesting corals I can add to my tank to spruce things up, and more importantly, create a good aquatic environment for my fish? Please let me know and thank u again! Lauren |

| Ricordea | Hi, Lauren! What kind of fish do you have in this tank? Are they reef safe? There are many types of soft corals that would do well under this lighting scheme, such as sarcophytons (leather corals), many types of mushroom corallimorphs, sinularia, capnella, zoanthids, and xenia if located high up in the tank. Many types of "lps" hard corals would do well also such as open brain (trachphyllia), bubble coral (plerogyra) and some euphyllias (torch, hammer, frogspawn). I'll look through my pics to give you some ideas. Good luck! -Becca ![]()

| Ricordea | These fanworms will do well under any lighting depending on fish. They're filter feeders and so are not dependant on photosynthesis. Hope that gave you some ideas!

| Contributing Member ![]() | Great suggestions Reefshadow - awesome pics. I do want to advise you to get test kits of your own. It will save you in the future, if you need to test something, and you will be able to rely on the results. Salifert makes a great test kit. My next recommendation is to not add the supplementation at this point. Your tank is still maturing, as it is only one month old. Any time you begin adding supplements, especially iodide, it is a good idea to understand their function and know what levels are safe. If you decide to keep supplementing, then be sure to pick up a test kit. That way, if something begins to look funny in your tank, you can test and see if you have over dosed. Here is a link to an article on: Iodine in the Marine Aquarium Calcium Calcium and alkalinity I'll leave you with these articles for the time being. Hope this is helping.
