Moving tank...sandbed questions?

I will be moving my tank from the back of the house (former family room) to the front of the house (current family room). After I move the tank and have the plumbing and electrical situated I’m going to inform the wife (translated into “ask very nicely while saying please and her how pretty her eyes are) that the current family room will remain the family room when the tank gets there.

Long story short, the tank has been set up for about 2 years now.

What should I do about the 40 lbs of sand after I drain the tank and move it? Should I simply fill ‘er up and move on? I know there will be a lot of detrious that will be stirred up during the move and I’m wondering if that would cause a small cycle.

Thanks and God bless,
Disciple

Re: Moving tank...sandbed questions?

If the tank is 2 years old then its about time to replace some of the sand anyway, I would move half of the sand and replace the other half with new sand.

As for the old water, siphon it into a large container and let it settle before pumping it into the tank after the move. Make sure to have some new water ready because you will be doing a large water change.

Important things to remember, make sure the new water parameter matches with your tank water, alk calcium, magnesium temperture ect so you don't shock your system

Have power heads and heaters ready so you can keep your criters warm while moving the tank.

Make sure to also have flexible hoses and submersble pumps available so you can move the water easily.

Good luck.
