Re: nanocube

What is your experience level?

What i the SIZE of the nano?

do you HAVE it yet?

What lights will it have?

What are your long term goals for fish and corals?

How much money do you want to put into it

Welcome to RS! You've come to the right place for helpful and friendly advice.

Live Rock Rubble will do the SAME thing as Bio-Balls and is NOT a suitable replacement for BIO-BALLS in a Reef System! It's ALL gotta go!!

Nitrate (NO3) reduction is directly proportional to percentage of Water Change.
Allen's home-made formula...currentNO3-((%WC*.01)currentNO3)=finalNO3 (thanks Luukosian)
This means if you change 50% of your total water volume (That's EVERYTHING) you'll get a net reduction of (NO3) somewhere around 50%.

Ask me about how to increase your REEF budget without going without FOOD!!

Re: nanocube

Ditto to Allen's post, Also don't use tap water! Look into a reverse osmosis unit or picking up water from an LFS

Re: nanocube

That's a good starting point money wise and stocking wise.

Let me offer you some heart felt advice.... take your time and do a LOT of research before starting your tank. The more you know ahead of time the easier it will be and the less it will cost (make fewer mistakes). Right now your best bet is to take it easy and SAVE your money to afford the largest tank within reason for your space alloted. The bigger the tank the more stable and forgiving your reef will be. It's commonly suggested don't start with anything less than a 50g tank. Lucky for you there are now "Nano-ish" tanks in that size range.

In order to start thinking about your long term corals you need to research what different corals require (intensity of light, food requirements, water flow) because each one has it's own requirements and you may not be able to have EVERYTHING in one tank.

Take some time to stroll around through our threads reading and making some notes. When you have a question or idea come back here and let's see if we can get you started on the right foot.If done correctly, you can learn from OUR experiences without having to pay the same prices we have.

Good luck and HAPPY REEFING! It's well worth ALL of the initial efforts.
