Something Drowning?

Looks like I am full of questions tonight. I actually saw this the other day, but figured it was nothing but a little air escaping that had somehow gotten trapped somewhere. However, I can't find my cleaner shrimp and I am wondering if maybe something is in there holding him down in the water and drowning him. OK, ok, that isn't what I am thinking, but I am wondering what would cause these medium size thermometer mercury looking bubbles to come up from the sand in the center of a rock conglomeration. There is nothing there that would cause air bubbles. It almost looks like it would be something from a Unidentified Sea Creature. Like a substance in the "sex" pages of the sea. ??????

I'm thinking it's nitrogen bubbles coming from the sandbed.
Didn't you say you just aquascaped? Probably bubbles settling out after being disturbed.

Or, the sea mafia is holding your shrimps head underwater. Could be that.

It could be the end result of bio-logical filtration. At some level the end of the nitrogen cycle is when nitrates are combined with O2 (I think) to become Nitrogen Gas which is then released into the water column and then expires into the air at the surface. I'm sort of shooting from the hip and not actually researching this right now but that's how I remember it.
