Clown Feeding

Hi. I was wondering should I shut the pump off when I'm feeding the fish it seems like more food ends up on the bottom of the tank then he gets. Also I was told by 1 LFS to feed him every other day, but then another said once a day.

I feed mine once or twice a day but it is a very, very tiny amount 1/16 - 1/8 of a cube of food for 4 fish. (clown, firefish, royal gramma, and lawnmower blenny)

They eat it all before it hits the bottom. I don't shut off the pumps.

Re: Clown Feeding

I shut off pumps in both tanks when feeding. This helps to keep the food OUT of your filtration system and tends to help you to have to feed less.

As for how often.. I'm an UNDER feeder.. I feed every OTHER day at the most.

Live Rock Rubble will do the SAME thing as Bio-Balls and is NOT a suitable replacement for BIO-BALLS in a Reef System! It's ALL gotta go!!

Nitrate (NO3) reduction is directly proportional to percentage of Water Change.
Allen's home-made formula...currentNO3-((%WC*.01)currentNO3)=finalNO3 (thanks Luukosian)
This means if you change 50% of your total water volume (That's EVERYTHING) you'll get a net reduction of (NO3) somewhere around 50%.

Ask me about how to increase your REEF budget without going without FOOD!!

Re: Clown Feeding

Mine gets a mush mix of Frozen Mysis shrimp and Cyclopeeze rinsed in RO and added to the tank sparingly.

Re: Clown Feeding

I feed frozen mysis and frozen cyclops (like cyclopeeze just a different brand.) I feed mysis in the morning and cyclops at night and I feed just a teeny tiny amount. I use a sharp knife to cut the cube into about 16 pieces. Then I dissolve it in RO water (I should rinse it, but I don't.)

I don't feed the flakes or pellets anymore because I've read that the frozen foods are better. I will very rarely hand-feed one flake to the clown just for fun.

By the way, I'm certainly no expert, this is just what I do with my tank.

Re: Clown Feeding

Thank You everyone for your help. But I do have a question? I'm so new at this what is RO water? And 1 person said they disolve the cubes, how does that work?
