a little goes a long way and it is pretty easy to add to much -

Re: Rods reef food

I agree Rod's food is great, I've even went to the extent to tell my local salty shops about it, now there is an address, I'll make sure to take it in too. The stuff is terrific, no rinsing, I just break off a piece and hold it in the tank and let it melt and get to watch all the frenzy begin.

I like how that sounds! Can't wait to hear back from my LFS.

Nitrate (NO3) reduction is directly proportional to percentage of Water Change.
Allen's home-made formula...(-NO3=WC%)
This means if you change 50% of your total water volume (That's EVERYTHING) you'll get a net reduction of (NO3) somewhere around 50%.

Ask me about how to increase your REEF budget without going without FOOD!!

Re: Rods reef food

Hmmm, I have no problem making my own food at all. Walmart sells a "fresh" package of fresh seafood for about $5.00. Clam, squid, fish, scallop, etc. I throw it in the food processor with some selcon. I then spread it on some wrap and freeze. Very simple and fish/ corals love it.

Is Rod's something other than this? How much does it cost? My batch lasts a long time.

Re: Rods reef food

I have been using it for the past two months, and I agree that a little goes a long way. I still use Mysis most of the time, but every few days, I switch to Rod's food. IMO, it is worth it.

You're lucky in that respect. Don't have anything like that here but then again I live WAY up in the Blue Ridge Mountains so COOL stuff like that is hard to come by.

Here are the listed ingredients for Rods Food

Shrimp, Scallop, Oyster, Clam, Squid, Octopus, Brine, Krill, Mysis, Grouper (or perch), Red Nori, green Nori, Broccoli, carrot, Frozen red plankton, Golden pearl (7 sizes), DTs Oyster eggs, Selco, Fresh hatched brine, Freshly harvested rotifers

Re: Rods reef food

Thanks for that Al. Maybe I'll add some broccoli and carrot on my next batch. What is the consistancy like?

Re: Rods reef food

I don't know yet. I'm having trouble finding it locally and am too cheap to pay over night shipping for such a small amount. I hope to have some soon even if I have to go out of town I've got to get some

Re: Rods reef food

One of my LFS got a shipment of Rod's Food in late last week. We made the drive and OH was it worth the trip. WOW! The whole tank goes CRAZY when I added it. I LOVE IT!!! Ask your LFS to get some in and KEEP it in....
