What is the purpose of letting kaulkwasser set for a few hours befor you start to drip it into the tank?

it allows the water to become as saturated with calcium as possible.

all the crap on the bottom is precipitated from the water as it absorbs calc.

im pretty sure you want none of it in your tank

To allow the undisolved particles to sink to the bottom of the container.
