good day gentle persons.any body cant tell me if live lava rock is as good as the other live rock?or is there such thing as live lava rock?

no such thing, and it is very very sharp, it could injure fish or other inverts

What about the pumice type rock, not volcanic glass?

thats what I was referring to......either of them are no good....stick with REAL live rock, or a dead base rock...

they have $18.00 for 11lbs.but they can still support micro.?just puzzled?

i have her that the lava live rock also can leach minerals that you do not want in your tank? just something i have herd...

I have seen lava rock that has been made live for sale before, but it was for FW tanks. The principle is the same though. "Real" LR will be better though, as it will have more diversity.

the issue with lava rock is
A. you dont know the make up, heavy metals and other impurities might be in it and lech into the tank. usually very high in silica and other minerals.
B. its very dense, thus not all that much surface area for bacteria to grow. this makes it not very efficient as a biofilter.

Lava rock is not usually dense. It is very porous and some of it even floats. Due to it's porosity it is actually very good for bacteria. However, as has been mentioned, it's chemical composition is not always safe for SW use.

I have used lava rock in predator tanks I have had both dense & lite lava. I like it for triggers & puffers. I dont however suggest it for reef fish.
