| Tubeworm | Bio-Cube Water Temp Problem? Hi! I think my Biocube 8G lighting is keeping the water too warm. The temp is about 80 in the a.m. before lights-on, 82 by midday, and 82-84 by lights-out. The fans in the hood are running as they should but maybe not keeping the lights cool enough? Has anyone else had this problem? Only other heat source I can think of is the pumps. I replaced the stock pump with a Minijet 606 and am using the stock pump in the tank to increase flow (forefront of the picture). The ambient room temp is a constant 74 degr. The 25W heater is in the first chamber, and the temp is set at 77; but I think I'll unplug it to make sure it's not coming on anyway. Thank you! | Tubeworm | Re: Bio-Cube Water Temp Problem? Hi again... I took the stock pump in the forefront out and took the heater out two days ago. Lighting off at 8pm that night and back on at 7am next morning. On for 10 hours, and temp was still 82-83 by lights out last night. 80 degr this morning. Is a constant temp of 82 detrimental to a nano reef tank? Using a Coralife digital thermometer, and the room temperature is still 74 (even here in hot, humid FL). I'm stumped... guess I'll write Oceanic. Thanks... Will let you know if you want. |

| Tubeworm | Re: Bio-Cube Water Temp Problem? Hmmm... ruminating again. Evaporation increases cooling; minimal evaporation in closed-system Biocube. How would you increase airflow over water-surface, other than propping the canopy open (defeats the purpose of a sleek, closed system). Stock fans move air around lights only, (one in, one exhaust), but increased airflow there might help what seems to be the primary heat source. Maybe dremel some air-intake holes in the canopy in inconspicuous places and turn the intake fan over, creating two exhaust fans? Yes... I am obsessing but it seems a common affliction in our avocation. |

| Hey!Its not my fault ![]() | Re: Bio-Cube Water Temp Problem? Im not sure if just getting some good air movement around the tank without opening the top will help. But its worth a try. Only other way is propping the top open which sounds like you dont want to do. A 2 degree fluctuation isnt all that bad. My tank does that from time to time.

| -CHAUVINIST PIG- | Re: Bio-Cube Water Temp Problem? cant you leave the top on and take the cover off the back chamber? get a cheapo clamp on fan and direct it toward the open back chambers? or you can do what my homeboy did all summer and just make an icetray of tank water everynight, and drop them in sparadically throughout the day ![]() wait, did yu take the heater out? take it out and see what happens. heaters are the one implement that i can always count on failing
