Aptasia

Ok, so I have all the rock for my new setup. Some of it has been in my main (55g) display tank, the sump for my 55g, and a new 55g tied into my new system. Heres the Q.. some of the rock I obtained had aptasia on it. It has now multiplied to my old rock in the 55g, and there is quite a few on the new rock. I have heard Joes juice, peppermint shrimp, copperbanded butterfly.. what is ultimatley the best cure? I figure with the Joes juice, I can only get the ones I see.. the peppermint shrimp would be a good answer to that problem, but I heard they will sometimes not even touch the stuff... and a copperbanded butterfly seems to be unsutable for a tank enviornment... ?? I am thinking zap the ones I cen see in my 55g display.. throw some starving peppermint shrimp in the 55g holding tank and don't feed it, but how do I get rid of the ones I don't see in the 55g display tank? I feed the tank, so if I use peppermints in it, they will more than likley get their fill on fish food? I want to get rid of the problem before I move everything over to the 125g.. any ideas short of cooking the rock? Thanks and sorry so long winded..!

Re: Aptasia

yeah, I have heard that too.. but I know if I don't completly get rid of them, not only the ones I can see, I will move them to the 125g... And on that scale, will be harder to get rid of... I am going to kill out the ones I do see.... but what about the ones that I know are lurking where I cant see them? Thanks for refreshing my brain about the boiling water!

Re: Aptasia

Kalc paste is another good method for those you can find. I would get as many as I could with Joe's Juice and then add some peppermints to get any stragglers. Even if they are well fed some will go after the aiptasia. I watched one late one night and I guarantee the shrimp was well fed shortly before.

I like the aiptasia away link. Totally sounds like an informercial.
I slices, it dices, it erases ugly soap scum,
it's aiptasia away!
Call now and get coral collision for only $3.99!
Sounds too good to be true.
See if Sasquatch will lone you some of his peppermint ninjas!
I prefer the all natural method.

When someone is in your life for a REASON, it is usually to meet a need you have expressed. They have come to assist you through a difficulty, to provide you with guidance and support, to aid you physically, emotionally or spiritually. They may seem like a godsend and they are. They are there for the reason you need them to be. Then, without any wrongdoing on your part or at an inconvenient time, this person will say or do something to bring the relationship to an end. What we must realize is that our need has been met, our desire fulfilled, their work is done. The prayer you sent up has been answered and now it is time to move on.

I had to laugh when I read that injecting boiling water & Kalk paste only works when you hit them... Then they go on to say there stuff is an injection as well.. LOL

Re: Aptasia

I have always used Peppermint Shrimp with great success. The trick is not purchase one or two. Buy 4 or 6. Trust me, these lil buggers never get full. Six peppermint keep my 120g aptasia and majano free.

Re: Aptasia

Aiptasia isnt that bad, I had them everywhere, tried everything, did more damage with juices and powder than they ever did, then I added 8 peppers, I still have some old ones but havent seen a baby in months, aiptasia is a filter feeder are somewhat beneficial in a perverse way, cooking the rock is probably the only way to be "free". by the way electricity does not work lol

Live Rock Rubble will do the SAME thing as Bio-Balls and is NOT a suitable replacement for BIO-BALLS in a Reef System! It's ALL gotta go!!

Nitrate (NO3) reduction is directly proportional to percentage of Water Change.
Allen's home-made formula...currentNO3-((%WC*.01)currentNO3)=finalNO3 (thanks Luukosian)
This means if you change 50% of your total water volume (That's EVERYTHING) you'll get a net reduction of (NO3) somewhere around 50%.

Ask me about how to increase your REEF budget without going without FOOD!!
