| -CHAUVINIST PIG- | a madarine will not do well in a 14 gal, right? now, im in an arguement of a different forum. and my argument is why one should not keep a mandarine in a 14 gallon tank, even if it does eat frozen mysis, enriched brine, and cyclopeeze? im arguing for arguments sake here, and this dude's winning. i need more ammo. ![]()

| Do I look as lost as I am ![]() | Re: a madarine will not do well in a 14 gal, right? Good luck on that one. Those who have or had one of those treasured critters are VERY passionate about them sometimes to the point of not even being rational about it. I have to say that in a 14g tank even though they are eating OTHER things it's a small tank and offers NO chance of them getting the kind of diet they are designed for. Yes you can substitute this for that but long term I don't know how good that really is. In the same token I've never had one so I am just arguing for argument's sake as well ![]()

| Golden Moray | Re: a madarine will not do well in a 14 gal, right? I don't know Bob. You could live in your bathroom but would you really want to? I would say that even if the fish's nutritional needs are met. His needing room to swim and not having it could increase stress and cause a gradual decline in health. |

| Sunshine Reefer ![]() | Re: a madarine will not do well in a 14 gal, right? I like the Docs answer. You could throw in that their natural diet is pods and other things will just keep them from starving for a short time but some people just won't listen.

| Sunshine Reefer ![]() | Re: a madarine will not do well in a 14 gal, right? If bought in the appropriate quantities I would think it could be done. I know I buy them on occasion even though I have a 125g tank with 20g fuge. There are pods everywhere in the fuge.

| Tridacna maxima | Re: a madarine will not do well in a 14 gal, right? Just for arguments sake I'll tell you that a friend of mine has a 9 gallon with a mandarin that is doing well for him and has been for 6 months. He does feed pods and it will eat frozen foods as well. Guess he got lucky.

| Totally back ![]() | Re: a madarine will not do well in a 14 gal, right? Dragonets are essentially "grazers." They eat small amounts all day long. When you feed your tank you are feeding them fixed amounts in a short time frame. Dragonets have evolved to eat a bite here, eat a bite there etc. A 14 gallon just won't have the volume to accommodate that type of feeding behavior. You might be able to keep one alive in a 14 gallon, however it is unlikely that it will thrive!
