| Sea Pen | moving a tank from one room to the next i don't know if this is the right thread to post this but mods please move it to the right place. okay i am going to move the tank from one room of the house to the room beside it. the tank has been running fo a year now with a shallow sand bed about 1-2 inches. what is the best way to do this? on the process i will be installing a new sump with plenum and add a calcium reactor. any suggestions is greatly appreciated.

| Has been struck by the ban stick | Re: moving a tank from one room to the next Pic a day, get some coolers, and a six pack(if you are old enough) and do it piece by piece, get your plenum all ready, and calcium reactor all ready to be plumbed, just go slow, water, sand, rock, tank... |

| Smile Maker | Re: moving a tank from one room to the next Agreed about the coolers or large trash cans to hold the water, LR and specimens. Since you are not moving very far, I'd leave the sand and some water in the tank. You'll need extra hands to lift and carry. Good luck, keep us posted. |

| Re: moving a tank from one room to the next carry the tank with the sand and some water but move it with the stand to avoid twisting/strain on seals. Avoid leaving rock or anything else that will fall while moving |

| Social Darwinism victim | Re: moving a tank from one room to the next If you can keep the tank on the stand and slide the whole deal, get those plastic doohickeys they use to move furniture with -- look like coasters with some spongy material. Empty most of the stuff out, esp. heavy stuff, so you can lift (from the stand, not the tank!!) and slide the coasters under the feet of the stand. Good for carpet, although I think it'll work for hardwood too. Worked great for a friend of mine.

| Do I look as lost as I am ![]() | Re: moving a tank from one room to the next Just keep in mind if scooting/sliding that your movements will be exaggerated and any "rhythmic" motions will be GREATLY accentuated causing a great amount of sloshing! Fresh water sloshing sucks but Salt Water sloshing sucks REALLY bad!! Drain a lot and transport carefull! That stuff stinks when it dries (or so I've heard) ![]() Allen

| Elegance coral | Re: moving a tank from one room to the next if the sand is good aragonite sand, it shouldnt be a problem adding fresh sand. just remember that it can cause quite a sandstorm if not rinsed or added carefully. also, if you add new sand, id say to remove all of the old sand. i added new sand on top of my old sand and had a horrible nitrate spike from what i assume was burying tiny and microscopic organisms.

| Sea Pen | Re: moving a tank from one room to the next did the move yesterday and everything went well so far no casualties but i'm worried about my radiant wrasse which hasn't surfaced yet. i left it in the tank with the yellow coris because they went under the sand and i don't want to stir the sand. the yellow is out and about but still waiting for the radiant to show up.
