| Do I look as lost as I am ![]() | Re: Purple Up I am sure MANY have used it and some with good results but I don't put anything in my tank like that. Once you add one thing odds are you'll throw something else off. It will happen in time but if you rush it (whatever IT is at the moment) you'll most likely regret It in the end. Allen ![]()

It's ALL gotta go!! Nitrate (NO3) reduction is directly proportional to percentage of Water Change. Allen's home-made formula...currentNO3-((%WC*.01)currentNO3)=finalNO3 (thanks Luukosian) This means if you change 50% of your total water volume (That's EVERYTHING) you'll get a net reduction of (NO3) somewhere around 50%. | Golden Moray | Re: Purple Up I used it religiously when I first set up the tank, everything was fine, never had a problem, but as time went by I found out that I didn't really need it and was wasting money on "snake oil." so to speak.

| Reef Sanctuary's Mr. Wizard ![]() | Re: Purple Up It is not a very nood additive and has caused probems for some. Others have had good success. The real issue with it is that it contains powered Aragonite, which may not dissolve and then one day when things are just right, POOF and the Alk is through the roof.

| Tridacna maxima | Re: Purple Up I used it for a while on advice of LFS. Realized it was snake oil as Caitrina said. It made absolutely no difference, good or bad, in my aquarium.

| Golden Moray | Re: Purple Up when i worked at a lfs the dude used that stuff like it was going outta style..... the real fact is that... unless your testing for something (like everything) you really shouldnt add it... or use it.... additives are ok from time to time... to spice things up a little.... but constent bombardment of chemical addatives will result in build up and dirty water.. if i was gonna use it.... (this is how i would do it.) one day a month i would add it in the morning.. and then do like 80% water change that night.. followed by another 20 % the next morning.... 2 remove it.. let them get what they can then.. and then clean it out... IMO

| Sunshine Reefer ![]() | Re: Purple Up 80% waterchange would mess with your cycle big time. I would only do that in an extreme emergency. There are several threads around about it messing with the ALK. Much better to test for everything and dose as needed.

| Tiger Shark | Re: Purple Up I personally have done water changes in excess of 80% however it was a large shark & eel tank thesde animals can handle the rapid change. I would never suggest anyone to do this because of the reasons that have been expressed by others
