| Tridacna maxima | 100/75 in series OK, my wife says this thing is happening soon so I want to be prepared in advance. We have a 75g built in wall that's been up and running as a reef for about 13 1/2 months. Beside it to the left also built into the wall was a 55g FW which has been dismantled and is now the refugium underneath the tank stands. In it's place I'll have a 100g 48x18x26.5 tank which I plan to run in series with my exhisting 75 so I can use the same filtration and fuge. The 100g will be drilled on the end facing the 75 and an overflow will channel water into the 75 where that overflow spills to the sump and fuge. Return will be to the 100. NOW COMES THE QUESTION. I know the 100g will have to cycle like any other tank. I'm concerned about hooking it to my exhisting system before this cycle is complete... or would it be the right thing to do? Should I get a canister filter for the cycle and only hook the cycled tank to my system after it's complete? Should I put koralias in there to provide flow and forget the canister and use water changes from my 75 to facilitate the cycle? Or should I just set it up and hook it up and let my system absorb the new tank? Any suggestions, I want to be prepared in advance. Thanks a lot!

| Brunt of all Jokes~ ![]() | Re: 100/75 in series wow! logistics lol. i would think an uncycled tank would raise havoc in your reef, cycle the new tank and use your reef water for water changes, your probably going to need a separate skimmer and filtration, after a few months 3 to 4, slowly start swapping water a few gallons a day. |

| Tridacna maxima | Re: 100/75 in series I'd like to get a hang on skimmer any way and thought the AquaC Remora would be a good one. The one with the Rio 1400 pump is rated 40-120g, that would be adequate wouldn't it? There is a drain fitting option, do I need that? I'm not very familiar with this skimmer, but it seems to be the skimmer of choice on RS. Thanks for the input.
