Crabs

I seem to have some small crabs crawling around my rocks, It was under my Green Clove Polyp preventing it from opening up. Is this something I should be concerned with, or are they harmless most of the time. Not sure if they are good or bad for my tank.

Re: Crabs

Describe those babies and then we might be able to tell you if you need to call the Crab Police or just kind of keep a neighborhood watch on them....

Re: Crabs

Ok I will do the best I can. They are close to the color of my lr. They have 2 long arms in the front with white tips where their claws bend. They also have 2 longer legs towards the middle of their body that are a little skinnier than the front legs but look hairy, not sure if this helps.

Re: Crabs

I agree, they end up doing too much damage, sooner or later.

Re: Crabs

Also spotted some type of bristle worm last night as I flashlighted my tank before going to bed. Still trying to find a red lens so I couldnt get a great look at it. this thing had stretched out over 6-7 inches and retracted QUICKLY when the light hit it. brownish red colored best I could tell. I've got his hole now, I'll keep an eye on that also.

Starting to think this TBS liverock is more than I bargained for.

Sorry, it's not nice to laugh! I'm still rangling mine up 6 months later.

Live Rock Rubble will do the SAME thing as Bio-Balls and is NOT a suitable replacement for BIO-BALLS in a Reef System! It's ALL gotta go!!

Nitrate (NO3) reduction is directly proportional to percentage of Water Change.
Allen's home-made formula...currentNO3-((%WC*.01)currentNO3)=finalNO3 (thanks Luukosian)
This means if you change 50% of your total water volume (That's EVERYTHING) you'll get a net reduction of (NO3) somewhere around 50%.

Ask me about how to increase your REEF budget without going without FOOD!!

Re: Crabs

Its sad but true! It is exactly what I wanted, and truth be told, I've spent so many hours staring at a tank with NO fish and NO corals.. ok it came with about 6 coral cups! Its not just me either, friends come over and watch it for an hour at a time, you never know what you'll find next. Not bad for some ROCK!
