| Scopas Tang | Best way to upgrade... im going to go to college pretty soon, but each summer i will be comeing back home and back to my tank. i have taught my parents how to top-off, feed and some other minor thing, as i will be coming back once a month or so.. and over the next 4 years i want to upgrade my 50 gallon to a 125= gallon.. so im not in a big hurry or anything. During this next year i was planning on getting the tank and just bring everything from my 50 to the 125 hopefully a 6' and just have to FOWLR for a while then upgrade the lighting to T5's the year after then the filtration the year after that, so after my first 4 year of college are over i would have a setup that would be well established and i would just move it to where my new home would be.... anyways i wasnt planning on buying anything new or complete setups i want it to be a big DIY project which would cut down on costs as well.. so first off which is the best way to get a used tank? remember i have a whole year to get the best deal. i was thinking ebay or craigslist but its either that these people think there tank are made out of gold or they want to get what they paid of them when they were new or the tanks are just a piece of $h!t.. so what is the best way to go about this?

| Smile Maker | Re: Best way to upgrade... Hey Cole, congratulations on choosing college over other "things", sounds like you have a good head on your shoulders. My recommendation would be to wait on purchasing another tank at this time. Give it year or two and see how well your parents take care of your tank. More importantly, see how you feel about trying to run a tank from afar. Take it from me who spent 10 years in school, things change. Attitudes, interests, places etc all change. Not only that, but the technology changes. Believe me in 4 years things will be different, not only in the hobby, but in our own life. If continuing your current tank is what you want then by all means get your parents involved, but as far as getting a new tank now, I'd recommend you wait. When you graduate from college, you will get a good job and have the finances to build the tank of your dreams. Best of luck to you! |
