a little help here

hi im new to this forum kinda...i have a 55 gallon fowlr.ran buy a fluvall 304 canister filter a oceanic protien skimmer,3 powerheads one on the front faceing up kinda pushing at the top water ,one on the bottem front pushing a current thrue my live rock and one on the back middle faceing the left corner.i also have a penguine bio filter in their for more circulation, because u want to create a more oceanic expeirence for ure fish rightabout 4 inches of crushed coral and around 40 to 50 lbs of l.r...well my tanks been going for about a year and a half with only one crash.i was little expeirenced at the begginig but the love of the ocean life strived me to learn.i am now a little bit more intelligent on my researches and helpfull forums like this.but i recentley forgot to to some research on a fish i bought and the idiot at the LFS failed to inform me to.i had two hermits two large turbo snails and variouse little ones my tank has produced,a three striped damsel a seven lined wrasse a serpent star...then i bought a juveinile koran angel just about three inches.i know it will get bigger upgradeing to a 120 g.whell he dont bother anybodie in the community..i just added a sailfin tang juveinile ,the size of a silverdollar or a little bigger.at first the angel just swam buy him backing up into the tang.then he was starting to chase hi and takeing bites out of his dorsal.whell i did a night rearange of the l.r.,the tang sits in the upper right hand side of my tank.comeing out around a half foot swimming around infont of a powerhead.he notices the angel and runs back.the angel will chase him when he gets to close to his cave but dont run to his corner intentionally looking for him....if he really wanted to kill the tang wouldnt he just do it?i would like to know a way to get these guys to get along untill i upgrade any suggestions on what to do,tak the angel out and in the quarinteen tank for a few days or something i love both these fish very mush...also any suggestions on a more suitable fish for a 55 gallon? i would apprieciate the advice very much.i love to learn something new about this beautifull hobby everyday....thanx much

The angel and tang are both territorial fish, there is nothing programmed in these fish to kill the other fish, however the angel obviously wants the tang out of it's territory, you can't "reprogram" the fish to think otherwise.
What you have run into is a problem of having two fish that honestly need to be in much larger tanks being stuffed into too small of a tank.
I would do what you can to remove one or both fish, because the tang will not survive long in that condition.

also any suggestions on a more suitable fish for a 55 gallon?
I would stick with smaller wrasses, blennies, gobies, clownfish, grammas, dottybacks, and there are numerous other fish that would be much better suited for a 55 than the two you have already picked out.

Hope you are able to get the tank sorted out

Re: a little help here

Honestly it is unlikely you can get them to be "good." This is a natural wired behavior in these fish. You either need to seperate them.
I honestly personally don't think a 120 is large enough for a sailfin (I don't know if you have ever seen a full grown sailfin tang, they are enormous) and the Koran is very debatable, as well as not very reef safe.
Pretty much what I am saying is they need to be separated or the sailfin will stress itself to death or starve to death.

Re: a little help here

Ditto to Mike. Angels can be very aggressive fish. I would certainly separate them in the small 30 gal. The aggression is harmful to the tang and will lower its resitance to disease.

Re: a little help here

I agree with the above.. As the fish get bigger the fighting may get worse. With the stress the fish are more susceptible to ick and other illnesses. Good luck

Re: a little help here

I agree with the advice that was given and suggest you take one of them back to the LFS for store credit.
The aggressive behavior will continue. It is cruel to allow it to run its course resulting in the death of the tang by either starvation or desease.
