| Sunshine Reefer ![]() | Re: sea hares ?s I don't see the price in the link, but sea hares are awesome particularly if you have hair algae. They will mow through it like there is no tomorrow. The thing you do have to be careful with is that they release a toxic ink it/when they die that can do some serious damage to your reef. Since mine is still alive I have not had this problem and the only damamge he has done to the reef is to knock over some small frags that were in his way. Great algae eating machine. I love mine. I think I paid 20 - 25 dollars for mine if that helps. Could have been less but I know it wasn't more. It was part of a larger purchase so it is hard to remember.

| Harlequin Tuskfish | Re: sea hares ?s They're really neat, just fun to watch. Ours sleeps in the same place all the time, curled up under the branches of the caulastrea. Sarah's trying to get her on prepared foods, but is also culturing hair algae in the sump. They're a great addition to a reef as long as you maintain a food supply for them, or are willing to part with them once they clean your tank. |

| Achilles Tang | Re: sea hares ?s I had a Sea Hare once. He was my favorite thing in the tank. He died though and I don't know why One day he was all over the tank and the next he was gone. Squishy I miss you ![]() They are really cool creatures. I've read that they only have a life expectancy of about a year though.

| Bryozoan | Re: sea hares ?s Sea hares are definitely they way to go for a hair algae problem. The tank was looking pretty gross for a while, but Gwendolyn has almost completely eliminated the hair algae. And just so neat to watch! Gwen actually ate some alage out of my hand the other night. She was $15 from the LFS and worth every penny! When Buffalo (our former sea hare) died I did have a sharp ammonia spike, but that cleared out with the water change; neither of them has ever inked. That might be related to the variety of hare and/or the diet? She seems to like nori after it's softened up a bit. It's sort of a switch to be thinking about how to grow more algae rather than get rid of it! ![]() |

| Sunshine Reefer ![]() | Re: sea hares ?s I love my sea hare. Keeps things nice and clean. Somehow she even gets into the overflow to clean that as well. Probably because that is where the most algae is, but I jave no clue how she gets there. ![]()
