Andy's new aquisition!

I'm not sure what forum this belongs on.. hope i'm right the first time!

Anywho... while searching through craigs list, i stumbled upon someone who was moving and had a 55g setup to get rid of. I'm going to get right to juicy stuff here... He was asking $250, I got it for $175... Here's what i got... Please telll me it was worth it! be honest

55G glass aquarium w/ blue background film on back. Tank has one chip in corner but was filled with silicone. to my knowledge the tank does not leak, I will be testing it soon!

Pair of glass tops for the aquarium.

"cherry Oak/mahogany" colored pine stand matches trim of aquarium, slightly worn, but I will refurbish it. it is already fitted with a power strip and a GFCI outlet.

JBJ 48" PC fixture, 4x 65w PC bulbs, total 260w PC light. fixture is 2 years old, no lunars, needs bulb replacements.

Sea Clone 100 Skimmer, clean, and in good working order.

HOT magnum filter (i think this is rather useless)
another big HOB filter, not sure of make/model yet, will check tomorrow!

55ish lbs LR, re-curing only about half of it, rest in a bucket outside, not the best LR, but LR none-the-less.

all accessories imaginable, heaters, food, test kits, power strips, IO salt, so on and so forth.

aragonite substrate, approx 50lbs.

Two yellow tail damsels, one blue/green chromis, and a few hermits. All are being traded in tomorrow to the LFS

I'm sure there are some things I'm forgetting, but you get the idea

Now here's the tricky part. I don't think I'm going to be using it immediately. I haven't even decided if i'll keep it to be honest.. Do you guys think this was a good purchase? I may turn around and sell everything.. (if your interested in something please PM me rather than posting here, don't want to turn the general form into a marketplace) I'm considering either cleaning everything up, and storing it for when I move into my condo, which is a long ways off... or simply turning around and selling everything.

Please let me know what you guys think! I'll have pictures tomorrow! Thanks guys and gals!

Andy

Re: Andy's new aquisition!

Sounds like a decent deal to me. I would replace the skimmer and remove the glass top. Also I don't recall reading about a return pump so you may need that.
The only problem I see with waiting is the LR. If you are willing to buy more LR when the time comes then IMO you are fine to wait. Personally, I would be way to excited to wait.

Re: Andy's new aquisition!

Seems like a good deal to me, but if you are not going to use it, why buy it? Why have the burden of storage and moving it. This kind of a deal is sure to come along again when you move into your condo, down the road. Just my 2 cents.

Re: Andy's new aquisition!

Good deal... The lights alone were prob $200.00.. The rest of it is freebie stuff! Font under estimate the HOT magnum. I have one, and it is GREAT for polishing the water. Keep it around. I do not run mine all the time, but when the water clouds a little, it is worth having. I hear you can run carbon or phosban in there too, but there is a sock or something to put the carbon in I am missing... I have the paper filter for it though, and it works great.. Nice score! The sea-clown is junk though.. (I have one of those too!)

Re: Andy's new aquisition!

Scott - Your bring up a really good point, and its funny i was thinking about that as I was driving home with everything in the back of the suburban... I guess part of my decision was seeing an opportunity to make a few bucks, or maybe like I said, a setup for down the road. keeping the equipment in the basement for now isn't any problem, though I'll have to clean everything, no big deal there. I will let you all know what happens, and will post pictures of everything tonight!

Re: Andy's new aquisition!

I think I've decided to sell it off in pieces, use what LR I can for my current tank/new nano and put the money into the 8gl biocube Then when the time comes, I can get a nice preferably new setup for the condo, and do everything the way i want, from scratch. craigslist is really an amazing thing... 2 calls on the tank/stand combo for $100 not even 1 hr after posting the ad Lesson learned.... I'll still have pictures to post later

P.S. Sorry to disappoint those of you who were anticipating a new chronicle at least i can get moving on the Biocube now though

Well. I am chiming in here,1. there aren't any pictures...2. You didn't update to say if you sold it all 3. If you did sell it all you didn't tell us what goodies you got for your other tank.
