Very cool event happend im my Reef last night!!!!Come look!!!

Ok, Last night when my lights went of, I did what i normally do, grab the flashlight and look around. There was a whole lot of debris in the water(or thats what it looked like) so im looking at these little things and they are alive, so then i was like, well maybe my blenny or neon goby laid eggs and they hatched. So i shut off the pump, and turned the lights on. They were darting and swimming backwards, and moving toward the light, I studied them for 45 minutes, taking pictures for all of you guys here on RS, I then shut the lights off(left the pump off) and turned the flashlight back on... I then saw what they were, I saw 2 little glowing eyes on each of these organisms, THEY ARE SHRIMP, but from where? My cleaner died, and never had an egg clutch, so, i am assuming something either is living in my rock as we speak, or something layed on a rock that I had purchased....Its really exciting to see all of this...I know its just about impossible to tell what they are, and I kinda hope they get eaten by fish/corals/and crabs before they get to grow, the neon goby was pickin em off one by one last night...

here they are, if you want to, click on the pic to make them bigger(might have to click once, that goes to my overall gallery, then click the one in the middle, it will open up a big page..)

Here are some pictures, they are not that good but its something, and a short 11 sec crap video of them darting around
top of tank; all the white specs are shrimps
<a href=http://gallery.greatestjournal.com/displayimage.php?pos=-5107017><img src="http://gallery.greatestjournal.com/albums/up7/691/1240691/normal_babyshrimp2tankview.jpg" width="400" height="275" ></a><br><a href="http://gallery.greatestjournal.com/"></a>
another, top of water line(looking up) closer shot:
<a href=http://gallery.greatestjournal.com/displayimage.php?pos=-5107021><img src="http://gallery.greatestjournal.com/albums/up7/691/1240691/normal_babyshrimp2tankview2.jpg" width="400" height="300"></a><br><a href="http://gallery.greatestjournal.com/"></a>

<a href=http://gallery.greatestjournal.com/displayimage.php?pos=-5107015><img src="http://gallery.greatestjournal.com/albums/up7/691/1240691/normal_babyshrimp2.jpg" width="400" height="300"></a><br><a href="http://gallery.greatestjournal.com/"></a>

"step into the light!!" all gathered by my flaslight:
<a href=http://gallery.greatestjournal.com/displayimage.php?pos=-5107032><img src="http://gallery.greatestjournal.com/albums/up7/691/1240691/normal_shrimpflashlight1.jpg" width="400" height="300" ></a><br><a href="http://gallery.greatestjournal.com/"></a>

just to show size, the flashlight you see is a mini maglight....
<a href=http://gallery.greatestjournal.com/displayimage.php?pos=-5107040><img src="http://gallery.greatestjournal.com/albums/up7/691/1240691/normal_shrimpflashlight2.jpg" width="328" height="400" ></a><br><a href="http://gallery.greatestjournal.com/"></a>
and finally a closeup, sorry, no macro lens....i know, i need one...
<a href=http://gallery.greatestjournal.com/displayimage.php?pos=-5107031><img src="http://gallery.greatestjournal.com/albums/up7/691/1240691/normal_babyshrimpcloseup1.jpg" width="400" height="300" ></a><br><a href="http://gallery.greatestjournal.com/"></a>

see the video here

tell me what you think, and if you have suggestions on what they COULD be, that would be great! maybe a pistol shrimp somewhere???

Extraordinary! They make excellent zooplankton for fish and coral. A stereomicroscope would help to ID them. My peppermint shrimps have hatchlings regularly, it always happens after lights out.

Very cool. Looks like dinner for the rest of the tank to me.
Glad you got to watch it happen. That was pretty cool.

Re: Very cool event happend im my Reef last night!!!!Come look!!!

I thought about them being mantis, but look at their body structure, large carapace like a pistol, thats what i was thinking, then again, it could be just a regular old shrimp too.....THEY BETTER NOT ME MANTIS SHRIMP, i would disown my new babies then!

Re: Very cool event happend im my Reef last night!!!!Come look!!!

if they are, id try and devise a way to run flow through an ice tray or sumthin. one baby per cube might cut down on the canabalism

rearin mantis shrimp could be a path to a healthy profit. (and a pipe dream of mine since nov.2006)

Re: Very cool event happend im my Reef last night!!!!Come look!!!

ah well. id drive down and get them, but florida gives me swampass.

im a pale redneck use to a dry and high climate.

when i was in highschool we went to florida to play football against a highschool there. i was only able to experience a weird disney hotel, and the most humid heat i have ever experienced.

we might have to work out shipping
