| Over Achiever | Re: water flow trouble Remove the rock and scrub the hell out of it in a bucket of saltwater, then rinse in clean SW and scrub again and rinse. Discard the scrub and rinse waters. Try to remove the bubble algae gently without breaking them open before the scrub (it will spread the spores). Then get a handle on your nitrates and phosphate levels. Testing for these should be routine maintenance. Also, check your lighting. How old are the bulbs? The only way to get rid of hair algae is to starve it to death by removing the nutrients that it thrives on-nitrate and phosphate. What kind of skimmer do you have? The Maxijet 400 may not be enough flow. I have a 20 gallon with a maxijet 600 and I don't think it's enough. I'm considering adding another one. That water has to churn! |

| Totally stoked dude ![]() | Re: water flow trouble Agree with Dentoid here. The main thing is going to be long term nutrient control, and with a messy eater like a snowflake, that could be tough in a small tank (You do know you will need a larger tank to keep him long term right?). Long term consider the use of something like PhosBan or RowaPhos, and keep up on the water changes with good quality RO/DI.

| Golden Moray | Re: water flow trouble Sounds like a plan. Trade or sell the snowflake, tear down the tank, cook the rock, reset, add peppermint shrimp, and try, try again (with RO/DI water, a killer skimmer, possibly new lighting, and a phosban reactor). GO TEAM !!! |
